Retracing the Battle of the Great War

A program for all those interested in the First World War. Discover the main historical sites and memorials of the dreadful part of our history.

A 2 days trip

Day one

Morning :

10.00 am : the courier guide will be waiting for your party at the Museum of the Great War in Péronne. You will visit it and the guide will explain the events and mentalities of these days. An unprecedented experience, the result of an historical research campaign carried in France, Great Britain and Germany.

12.00 : lunch in Rancourt

Afternoon

2.30 pm : Leave for the Newfoundland Memorial Park of Beaumont-Hamel, with its caribou overlooking the trenches. Then, the Ulster Tower, a memorial of an unusual type.

4.30 pm : Somme 1916 Museum : a visit of the diorama about the Great War, in the shelters of Albert : underground galleries dug in the 16th century and turned into anti-aircraft shelters.

Dinner and accommodation in Amiens : a 3 stars hotel, according to availability.

Day two

Morning

Breakfast

9.30 am : Remembrance tour of the Great War with an English speaking guide : Thiepval, the major British memorial of the Battle of the Somme. Then, the South African memorial and museum in Longueval, Pozières tank memorial, the Lochnagar Crater in La Boisselle, the Mouquet Farm...

12.00 am : lunch near Albert

Afternoon

2.30 pm : Visit of the Australian Museum and Victoria School in Villers-Bretonneux (it illustrated the role of the Australian troup during the First World War). The Victoria school was rebuilt by Australia after the war.

4.00 pm : Visit of the National Australian Memorial in Villers-Bretonneux (on the walls of this memorial you can find the name of the missing soldiers who have no known grave).

5.30 pm : Back to Amiens

2012 Price

170€ (about 235 AUD) per person with a minimum of 30 persons

The price includes : conducted tours, courier guide, ride on the tourist train, meals (with drinks), accommodation in double rooms, breakfast, extra : no charge for the driver and tour leader for a minimum of 30 persons

The price does not include : transport, insurance, tips, extra charge for single room : 42 to 48€ per person and per night. Taxe : 0.80€/night
